On August 4, 1901, in a one-room house on James Alley between Gravier and Perdido streets in New Orleans, a child was born to Mayann Albert and William Armstrong. The 2026 Jazz Fest poster commemorates the 125th anniversary of that birth. The house is gone. The music is not.
